Job description

Managing Quantity Surveyor – Infrastructure

As a Managing Quantity Surveyor, working within our local authority division, you will lead the commercial management of exciting new highways schemes in Derbyshire.

You will collaborate closely with your commercial line manager and operational colleagues, taking responsibility for the commercial administration, reporting, and performance of either a single large project or multiple smaller schemes.

Key Accountabilities
  • Promote and maintain a safe and inclusive working environment for all team members.
  • Lead the commercial management of projects, including contract administration, change management, and reporting.
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
  • Prepare, review, and manage subcontract documentation, commercial notices, and monthly applications.
  • Track, forecast, and reconcile project costs, including detailed cost plans and expenditure reports.
  • Support the Project Manager in planning, risk management, and maximising value and profit.
  • Attend progress and risk reduction meetings, providing commercial insight and guidance.
  • Manage, develop, and support the commercial team to achieve their potential and maintain wellbeing.
About you
  • Solid understanding of construction processes and NEC contracts, with relevant commercial experience or degree qualified.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of developing and supporting team members.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation abilities, including final account settlements.
  • Advanced IT skills, including Excel, Word, and contract/cost management systems.
  • Highly organised with strong time management, outcome focus, and experience across both large and multiple smaller schemes; CSCS card required.
