Job summary

RTL Group Ltd is seeking a Senior Engineer to provide technical leadership across tunnelling and civil works, coordinating with the Project Manager, site teams, subcontractors and design groups to deliver to programme and quality standards.

The role requires proven tunnelling/site engineering experience, CSCS card, and strong surveying skills. £375-£450 per day, 12-month contract with potential extension, immediate start and weekly payments.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Senior Engineer or Site Engineer on tunnelling/major civil projects.
• Experience delivering tunnelling schemes, shafts, underground structures or rail projects.
• Strong knowledge of tunnelling construction, reinforced concrete and temporary works.
• Experience with setting out and surveying on major projects; health and safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee all site engineering activities across tunnelling and underground works.
• Manage day-to-day engineering delivery, ensuring safety and on-time completion.
• Set out and survey tunnel structures, shafts, portals and concrete works.
• Review drawings and QA docs, resolve engineering issues as they arise.
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with subcontractors and design teams.

Job description

The Role

As Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical engineering leadership across the project, ensuring tunnelling and associated civil engineering activities are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required technical and quality standards. You will work closely with the Project Manager, Site Management, subcontractors and design teams to ensure works are delivered in line with programme, specifications and client requirements.

Senior Engineer Responsibilities

• Leading and overseeing all site engineering activities across tunnelling, shafts, underground structures and associated civil engineering works.
• Managing the day-to-day engineering delivery of the project, ensuring works are completed safely, accurately and to programme.
• Setting out and surveying tunnel structures, shafts, portals, underground structures, concrete works and associated civil engineering works.
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and technical documentation, identifying and resolving engineering issues as they arise.
• Coordinating tunnelling and construction activities with site management, subcontractors and engineering teams to ensure works are delivered in accordance with the design.
• Producing and reviewing QA documentation, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), inspection records and handover documentation.
• Maintaining accurate site records, as-built information, surveys and engineering documentation.
• Monitoring progress against programme, identifying technical risks and implementing appropriate mitigation measures.
• Supporting the delivery of tunnelling activities, including tunnel excavation, lining, secondary concrete works, shafts, portals and associated temporary and permanent works.
• Mentoring and supporting Site Engineers, Graduate Engineers and junior members of the engineering team.

Senior Engineer Requirements

• Proven experience as a Senior Engineer or Site Engineer on major tunnelling, underground infrastructure or civil engineering projects.
• Previous experience delivering tunnelling schemes, shafts, underground structures, rail infrastructure, utilities or major civil engineering schemes is highly desirable.
• Strong technical knowledge of tunnelling construction, underground structures, reinforced concrete, foundations, temporary works and associated civil engineering works.
• Experience with setting out, surveying and managing complex engineering activities on major construction projects.
• Excellent understanding of construction methodology, quality assurance and health & safety requirements.
• Competent using Leica, Trimble or similar surveying equipment.
• Strong communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
• Valid CSCS Card (essential)
• Full UK Driving Licence preferred.
