Job summary

SP Energy Networks in Glasgow is seeking a Senior Engineer to deliver safety and compliance programmes across the electricity distribution network, drive asset integrity and improve performance. You will lead projects and contract management while ensuring regulatory and licence obligations are met.

What you’ll be doing

Responsible for delivering key safety and compliance programmes across the electricity distribution network, including Asbestos Management, Fire Risk & Protection, and Flood Risk & Prevention. The role ensures full compliance with regulatory and licence obligations while driving network safety, asset integrity, and business performance. Deliver programme outputs in line with regulatory, financial and business plan objectives. Manage and oversee projects that improve substation safety, performance and resilience. Lead key activities including contract management, project delivery, financial control and auditing. Apply sound asset management and engineering principles to enhance network safety, integrity and longevity. Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and standards. Ensure accurate and timely data capture across corporate systems. Provide quality and financial assurance for projects delivered by a small team, including management of direct reports where required.

What you’ll bring

Proven project or programme management experience with a strong track record of delivering successful outcomes. Knowledge of regulatory frameworks, commercial considerations and performance incentives within a utility or infrastructure environment. Experience delivering distribution network or infrastructure projects. Knowledge of network construction and operational practices. Strong leadership, coaching and people management skills. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities. Ability to solve complex challenges and drive continuous improvement. Technical or operational experience in asbestos, fire risk or flood risk management, ideally within a utility or infrastructure setting. Minimum Criteria Relevant qualification in Asbestos, Fire Safety or Flood Risk Management (e.g. BOHS P402/P405, NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate, Professional Certificate in Flood Risk Management, or equivalent). Engineering or professional qualification, or equivalent experience. Strong IT and systems skills.
