Job summary

SP Energy Networks, part of the Iberdrola Group, is hiring a Cartographer in Glasgow or Prenton for a hybrid role with 2–3 days in the office. Salary starts from £38,680 depending on experience.

You will maintain RTS systems diagrams, ensure high data integrity, and coordinate with Control Room, SCADA, and network teams to deliver timely diagram updates and patches. This role focuses on accurate data architecture and reliable network operations.

What you’ll be doing

The Cartographer, reporting to the Cartography team leader, will be responsible for the operational integrity, reliable performance, and high availability through highly accurate data architecture construction. Working closely with the Control Room, Districts, Network Digitalisation team and SCADA teams to ensure timely SCADA diagram updates, system validations and implementing diagram patches.


What you’ll be doing Responsible for SP Energy Networks’ RTS Systems, Master Diagram and Maintenance, ensuring the operational integrity, reliable performance, and high availability through highly accurate data architecture construction. Liaison with Energy Networks’ internal ‘customers’ in relation to timely and accurate data gathering. Coordinate with SCADA Support Engineers in relation to new construction projects and substation refurbishments including the RTU replacement programme on the Transmission and Distribution networks.


Liaison with the NCP team in relation to new construction projects and substation refurbishments on the Secondary Distribution network Participate in validations of tele controllable sites except for controls (indication, alarms and analogues only) due to authorisation restrictions. Carry out Cartography duties including, the creation of patches, diagram builds and implement corrections to the diagram. Ensure timely and successful resolution of SCADA Scan System faults.

This post encompasses a wide range of technical specialists. The postholder will have a requirement to respond to several different challenges. The accountabilities are varied, and a degree of knowledge is required in each area to ensure effectiveness. Working knowledge of Energy Networks policies, procedures and working practices. Working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation. Awareness of network development policies and procedures. Advanced level of internal and external stakeholder management Expert knowledge of network and business data and network management systems. Innovative in applying the latest technologies. Developed negotiation and communication skills. Ability to devise solutions to complex problems/challenges. Expert technical understanding of SCADA system/database applications and structures, RTU protocols and RTU hardware/software and RTS Systems applications and hardware.
