Job summary

Pioneer Selection Ltd in Luton, Bedfordshire, is recruiting an experienced Senior Engineer to lead maintenance and CI on production equipment. The role offers a competitive salary of £50,000–£55,000 and a Monday–Friday day shift in a busy manufacturing environment.

You will carry out planned and reactive maintenance, diagnose electrical and mechanical faults, mentor engineers, and drive reliability improvements while ensuring safety standards and collaboration with production teams.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as Maintenance Engineer or Senior Engineer in manufacturing.
• Strong electrical and mechanical knowledge.
• Apprenticeship or recognised engineering qualification.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across manufacturing equipment.
• Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical breakdowns to minimise downtime.
• Provide technical guidance to engineers and production staff.
• Identify opportunities to improve machinery reliability and OEE.
• Support maintenance planning and prioritisation.

Senior Engineer Job Overview

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Engineer to join a well-established manufacturing business based in Luton. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and motivated engineer to take on a senior position within a busy manufacturing environment, offering a competitive salary of £50,000 £55,000 and the benefit of a Monday-to-Friday day shift.

The successful Senior Engineer will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency and performance of production machinery, supporting maintenance activities and driving continuous improvement across the site.

Senior Engineer Non-Negotiable Requirements

• Previous experience working as a Maintenance Engineer, Senior Engineer or similar within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong electrical and mechanical engineering knowledge.
• Experience fault-finding, maintaining and repairing industrial production machinery.
• Recognised engineering qualification, ideally through an apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to work independently and take responsibility for engineering activities.

Senior Engineer Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across manufacturing equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
• Provide technical guidance and support to engineers and production personnel.
• Identify opportunities to improve machinery reliability, efficiency and overall equipment effectiveness.
• Support the planning and prioritisation of maintenance activities.
• Work closely with production teams to ensure machinery operates safely and efficiently.
• Assist with engineering projects, machinery upgrades and equipment installations.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health and safety regulations.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to reducing repeat breakdowns.

Senior Engineer Desirable Requirements

• Experience working with PLC-controlled machinery and automated production equipment.
• Previous experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers.
• Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience with maintenance management systems.
• Previous involvement in engineering projects or machinery installations.
