Barnsley Council have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engagement Manager to join the team based in Barnsley. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £41,511 - £44,711 per annum.

The Borough’s cultural and heritage sector has grown extensively over the last ten years, and it delivers an ambitious and exciting programme – a national quality offer in a local landscape. Its significant recent achievements include Experience Barnsley being shortlisted for the Art Fund’s Museum of the Year prize in 2021, winning Kids in Museums Best Accessible Family Friendly Museum of the Year in 2022 and 2024 and the Sandford Award for Excellence in Heritage Learning at multiple sites. The museums service is an Arts Council England (ACE) National Portfolio organisation and Barnsley is an ACE Priority Place.
A new opportunity has arisen for a talented and experienced individual to lead the development and delivery of inclusive and innovative engagement and learning programmes across the heritage and museum service. We believe that museums can change lives through innovative, targeted and high-quality programmes which tackle the complex social issues we face across our borough. We want everyone to be able to experience great art and culture and this role will work with our local communities, educational and wider partners to place audiences at the heart of what we do.
You will be responsible for the co-production, implementation and review of a new Engagement Strategy for the service including new models of delivery and leading our work with schools, young people, families and communities. You will play an important role in the coordination of the NPO programme and creating new relationships with a range of stakeholders across the borough and within Barnsley Council.
The successful candidate will have experience of working in the museum or heritage sector in a community engagement and learning capacity including co-producing programmes and strategies with audiences. They will also be experienced in managing projects, teams and budgets and have strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
