Job summary

Humanoid in London is seeking a Senior Low-level Control Engineer to join the Control Team. You will design, validate and integrate actuator- and joint-level controllers for a family of end-effectors, including grasping variants, with a focus on safety, performance and real-time hardware debugging.

The role demands a solid background in control theory, strong C++ software skills, and experience from RTOS or real-time Linux to hardware bring-up and testing across ROS2 platforms.

Qualifications

• Shipped real-time-safe, object-oriented C++ control software.
• Experience tuning controllers on physical actuators.
• Background in multi-DoF end-effectors and grasp control.
• Experience with fieldbus/OS layers (EtherCAT/CAN; RTOS or RT-Linux).
• Strong foundation in control theory applied to robotics.

Responsibilities

• Tune and validate actuator- and joint-space control loops for multi-DoF end-effectors in ROS2.
• Develop grasp-level behaviours and compliant grasping on underactuated grippers.
• Implement safety and fault-handling mechanisms for control stacks.
• Model actuators, transmissions and mechanisms including non-linearities and backlash.
• Own joint-to-actuator abstractions and exposure of state through the control stack.
• Collaborate on transmission design with mechanical engineers early in development.
• Integrate and calibrate end-effector sensing with real-time data.
• Hands-on bring-up and debugging of new end-effectors on test-stands.
