Job summary

HCA Healthcare UK is seeking a Senior Embryologist to join the Fertility team at The Portland Hospital, London. The role covers advanced embryology techniques, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to service development in a leading private fertility setting.

Based at The Portland Hospital campus, you will work in a technologically advanced lab, ensuring high standards of quality, patient safety and regulatory compliance within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• HCPC registration as Clinical Scientist with embryology expertise.
• Extensive experience in licensed IVF laboratory settings.
• Proficiency in ICSI and cryopreservation techniques.
• Strong knowledge of HFEA regulations and quality governance.
• Excellent communication, organization and mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced embryology procedures including IVF, ICSI, embryo culture, embryo transfer support and cryopreservation.
• Ensure laboratory activities comply with HFEA regulations and quality management systems.
• Monitor, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and contribute to QA and audits.
• Support and supervise junior embryologists, providing training and guidance.
• Participate in service improvement initiatives and development of laboratory practices.

Monday to Friday with participation in weekend and on-call rota as required

As a Senior Embryologist in the Embryology Laboratory, you’ll be part of a team that delivers exceptional laboratory services to support patients through their fertility journey. What you’ll do:

• Perform a range of advanced embryology procedures including IVF, ICSI, embryo culture, embryo transfer support and cryopreservation techniques
• Ensure laboratory activities are conducted in accordance with HFEA regulations, quality management systems and professional standards
• Monitor, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and contribute to quality assurance and audit activities
• Support and supervise junior embryologists, providing training and guidance where required
• Participate in service improvement initiatives, research activities and the ongoing development of laboratory practices

What you’ll bring:

• HCPC registered, biopsy-trained Clinical Scientist with extensive embryology experience
• Significant experience working within a licensed IVF laboratory environment
• Demonstrable competency in advanced embryology techniques including ICSI and cryopreservation
• Comprehensive knowledge of HFEA regulations, quality management systems and laboratory governance
• Excellent communication, organisational and teamworking skills with the ability to support and mentor colleagues
