Job summary

BramahHR Ltd is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer for the energy sector in Birmingham. The role is hands-on, owning embedded software and firmware from requirements through integration, validation and live operation.

You will work across low-level MCU firmware, higher-level applications and cloud interfaces in a hybrid office setting. The ideal candidate has strong modern C++ skills, experience with STM32, RTOS, CAN, Modbus, MQTT/WebSockets and secure OTA updates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronics or related field or equivalent experience.
• Strong background in modern C++ for resource-constrained embedded systems.
• Experience with high-voltage DC systems and safety-conscious environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead embedded software and firmware from requirements to in-service support.
• Develop and bring up firmware for high-performance MCUs and gateways.
• Design robust communication between hardware, devices and cloud services.
• Implement and optimise CAN, Modbus RTU/RS485, MQTT and WebSocket comms.
• Support cybersecurity, including TLS, certificates and signed OTA updates.
• Build automated test infrastructure with CI and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
