Job summary

ALTEN is a global engineering and technology consultancy supporting a wide range of sectors. This role is for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer working on mission‑critical embedded C++ in defence and regulated settings, with a London location and on‑site work four days per week.

You will develop real‑time software, ensure robustness and determinism, and contribute to safety assurance in high‑integrity programmes. UK SC clearance eligibility is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Eligible to obtain UK SC security clearance.
• Experience delivering embedded software for defence or safety‑critical domains.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded C++ software for real‑time, mission‑critical systems.
• Work within safety‑regulated environments following high‑integrity practices.
• Develop and integrate low‑level software components and system interfaces.
• Support unit, integration, and system testing to ensure deterministic behavior.
• Collaborate with systems, electronics, and test teams to integrate software into platforms.
• Produce clear, traceable technical documentation for regulated environments.
