Job summary

Fortis Recruitment Solutions is seeking a Senior Electronics Design Engineer to own projects from concept to production. You will lead cross-functional teams, work directly with clients, and guide technical direction across the product lifecycle.

The role offers predominantly remote work with occasional visits to a Dunstable-area lab, travel to customer sites, and the chance to influence engineering standards while mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• A degree or equivalent qualification in Electronics Engineering.
• Significant commercial experience designing electronic hardware from concept through to production.
• Experience taking ownership of projects and delivering against agreed timescales.
• Mixed analogue and digital electronics design experience, including microcontrollers.
• Experience with schematic capture using Altium and/or Cadence.
• Strong technical documentation and report-writing skills.
• Experience providing technical direction, mentoring or reviewing the work of other engineers.
• Confidence dealing directly with technical and non-technical customers.
• A structured, methodical approach to electronics design and problem solving.
• Experience with FMEA, validation, approvals and engineering change processes.
• Eligibility to obtain and hold UK Security Clearance (SC).
• A full UK driving licence, as occasional customer-site travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Own electronics design projects from initial enquiry through to production handover.
• Work directly with clients to translate requirements into technical specifications.
• Define project scope, estimate engineering effort and plan resources.
• Provide technical direction to Electronics and PCB Engineers and review outputs.
• Act as the daily technical contact for clients, managing progress and change.
• Carry out hands-on hardware design, simulation, bring-up, testing and fault finding.
• Support quotations and proposals with technical input and delivery plans.
• Identify risks and implement practical solutions early in projects.
• Produce and review technical documentation, design reviews and reports.
• Support EMC, qualification, validation and integration activities in labs and at customer sites.
• Help develop engineering standards and mentor junior engineers.
