Job summary

VIQU Energy in the UK renewables sector seeks an experienced Electrical Lead to own the electrical function across the business, with a primary focus on utility-scale Solar PV and BESS projects.

This senior leadership role sets electrical standards, provides technical direction, and develops the company's electrical and commissioning capability, working with senior leadership, project teams, subcontractors, and DNOs to support tender, design, construction, commissioning, and grid energisation.

Qualifications

• Qualified electrician with Level 3 NVQ in Electrical Installations.
• 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), including Amendment 4 and BESS requirements.
• City & Guilds 2922 Solar PV installation qualification.
• City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent Inspection & Testing qualification.
• Current ECS Gold Card.
• NEBOSH/ISO experience advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the electrical function, setting standards, culture, and direction across the business.
• Recruit, mentor, and performance-manage electrical and commissioning staff as the department grows.
• Act as the primary escalation point for electrical technical issues across the business.
• Ensure electrical installations comply with BS 7671, CDM 2015, and UK legislation, including BESS requirements.
• Lead DNO engagement from grid connection applications through to G99 testing and energisation.
• Manage HV safety documentation, switching schedules, and safe systems of work per DNO requirements.
• Coordinate and witness G99 commissioning tests with DNOs and achieve grid milestones.
• Provide technical input into tenders, electrical scope, design reviews, and value engineering.
• Review designs, single-line diagrams, and subcontractor submissions for buildability and compliance.
• Develop and maintain electrical policies and procedures as part of the management system.
• Support ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 accreditation as electrical SME during audits.
• Provide technical support to site teams, including drawings and procurement decisions.
• Review and approve subcontractor RAMS and electrical documentation before works commence.
• Oversee integration and commissioning of SCADA, inverter, and monitoring systems across Solar PV and BESS.
• Build and lead an in-house commissioning team to reduce external dependencies.
• Plan HV/LV commissioning, pre-energisation checks, and BESS commissioning.
• Review and approve electrical certification, test results, EICRs, and O&M manuals.
