Hunter Selection is seeking a Senior Electrical & Instrument Engineer for a major manufacturing facility in Barry, South Wales. The role oversees critical electrical, control and instrumentation systems, driving reliability, safety and regulatory compliance across site infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Technical expert in modern instrumentation and electrical control systems.
• Competent in maintenance of electrical infrastructure up to 11 kV, transformers, switch rooms, MCC and distribution networks.
• Understanding of ladder logic and PLC maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to a safety-first environment at all times.
• Owns and manages site electrical infrastructure including 11kV, 415V, low voltage and instrumentation.
• Maintains electrical standards and drawings to meet legal, corporate and local requirements.
• Supports Maintenance supervisor in leadership of Electrical & Instrument Technicians.
• Manages budgets for Electrical & Instrumentation maintenance and shutdowns.
• Drives continuous improvement in equipment reliability and life-cycle costs.
• Manages small-scale capital projects for replacements and upgrades.
• Authorized to issue Safe Work Permits for contracted resources.

Our client is a globally recognised manufacturing organisation with a major, high-performing production facility in South Wales. As part of their continued investment in operational excellence and asset reliability, they are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Electrical & Instrument Engineer to provide technical leadership across critical electrical, control and instrumentation systems within a complex, heavy manufacturing environment.

This is a key engineering position offering the opportunity to take ownership of site-wide electrical and instrumentation infrastructure, drive reliability improvements and support ongoing capital investment projects. Working closely with operations, maintenance and site leadership teams, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring statutory compliance, maintaining high engineering standards and delivering safe, reliable plant performance. Roles and Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to encourage a safety first environment at all times
• Owns and manages the site electrical infrastructure (including 11kv, 415v, lower voltage systems and instrumentation) including maintenance program, upgrades and modifications.
• Owns and manages the site electrical standards and drawings to ensure that they meet legal, corporate and local electrical requirement including safety standards.
• Support the Maintenance supervisor in leadership and management of the Electrical & Instrument Technicians.
• Support the Engineering Manager for control and setting of the site Electrical & Instrumentation maintenance and shutdown budgets.
• Identifies and drives continuous improvement in equipment reliability.
• Take responsibility to ensure that electrical/instrumentation maintenance schemes are in place such that Capital assets fulfill their life expectancy with minimum expenditure.
• Provide Project Management for small scale capital projects for replacement / equipment upgrades.
• Authorized to issue Safe Work Permits (SWP's) for approved contract resource to maintain 11 KV systems work and electrical approver for excavation permits.

Requirements

• Technical expert in all levels of modern instrumentation.
• Competent in full range of maintenance skills of electrical control equipment up to 11KV including transformers, switch rooms, MCC, electrical distribution networks, variable speed drive technology.
• Understanding of ladder logic and ability to perform first line maintenance on PLC system.
• Working knowledge of Hazardous area electrical equipment, maintenance and protection concepts
• Experience in engineering and maintenance roles within a manufacturing industry.
• Experience of Process Safety management.
