Job summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Nuclear Infrastructure team in London. You will focus on electrical design within nuclear environments, supporting existing and new-build facilities through design, upgrade, refurbishment and asset optimisation.

This role requires leadership, collaboration and a strong background in electrical infrastructure, with an emphasis on regulatory compliance and safety-critical projects across highly regulated environments.

Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards chartership is preferred, but not essential.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline is required.
  • Typically 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Strong understanding of UK engineering standards, regulations and industry best practices.
  • Must have the legal right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or support the delivery of electrical design packages for nuclear infrastructure projects.
  • Develop and review single-line and three-line diagrams, protection and control schematics.
  • Produce cable schedules, equipment layouts and interconnection drawings.
  • Perform load flow, short circuit and arc flash studies; size batteries and chargers.
  • Prepare technical specifications, scope documents and bills of materials for procurement and construction.
  • Undertake site surveys and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers; ensure regulatory compliance.

Education

As part of our growing Nuclear Infrastructure team, we are seeking an experiencedElectrical Engineer to support the design and engineering of facilities, systems and infrastructure that enable the safe operation, maintenance and expansion of nuclear sites.

This is an opportunity to work on technically complex, high-profile projects that support the UK's energy and infrastructure goals. Importantly, this role focuses on theengineering and design of electrical infrastructure within nuclear environments, rather than nuclear technology, reactor physics or power generation science.

The Role

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will provide technical expertise across the design and delivery of electrical systems supporting major nuclear infrastructure projects.

You will work as part of multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering solutions for both existing and new-build nuclear facilities, supporting clients through design, upgrade, refurbishment and asset optimisation programmes.

This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving complex infrastructure challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead or support the delivery of electrical design packages for nuclear infrastructure projects.
  • Develop and review:
  • Single-line and three-line diagrams.
  • Protection and control schematics.
  • Cable schedules and cable sizing calculations.
  • Electrical equipment layouts and interconnection drawings.
  • Perform engineering calculations including:
  • Load flow studies.
  • Short circuit analysis.
  • Arc flash assessments.
  • Battery and charger sizing.
  • Prepare technical specifications, scope documents and bills of materials for procurement and construction.
  • Undertake site surveys and assessments to understand existing infrastructure and identify engineering solutions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers and clients.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to junior engineers.
  • Ensure compliance with UK regulatory requirements, client standards and engineering best practice

Our teams support projects across the nuclear lifecycle, including:

  • Electrical infrastructure upgrades.
  • Site power distribution networks.
  • Balance of plant systems.
  • Auxiliary and support facilities.
  • Grid and utility connections.
  • Plant modernisation and life-extension programmes.
  • Critical power and resilience projects.
Preferred Qualifications

You are a technically strong electrical engineer who thrives in a collaborative project environment and is motivated by delivering engineering solutions that make a real impact.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience delivering electrical design and engineering projects within regulated industries.
  • Experience of power distribution systems and infrastructure design.
  • Familiarity with engineering software
  • Experience using discipline related software and other engineering design tools.
  • Previous experience working on nuclear, power, industrial, defence or critical infrastructure projects.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards chartership through a recognised professional institution. (Preferred but not essential).
  • Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Typically 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Strong understanding of UK engineering standards, regulations and industry best practices.
