Job summary

Mane Contract Services is seeking an experienced Lead HV Main Plant Engineer to lead the design and delivery of high-voltage substation primary plant systems. You will provide technical leadership across multiple projects, working with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient, and compliant engineering solutions.

Ideal candidates will have a degree in Electrical Engineering and 8+ years' HV substation design experience, with Chartered status desirable.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• 8+ years' experience in HV substation primary plant design.
• Chartered Engineer status desirable (or working towards it).

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of HV primary plant systems for substations.
• Take technical ownership of design packages across multiple projects.
• Design and specify key equipment including busbars, circuit breakers, disconnectors, instrument transformers, and associated steelwork.
• Develop and review substation layouts and ensure compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance across the team.
• Coordinate with civil, protection, control, and secondary engineering disciplines.
• Support design reviews, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders while driving engineering best practices.

You'll provide technical leadership across multiple projects, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient, and compliant engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of HV primary plant systems for substations.
• Take technical ownership of design packages across multiple projects.
• Design and specify key equipment including busbars, circuit breakers, disconnectors, instrument transformers, and associated steelwork.
• Develop and review substation layouts and ensure compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance across the team.
• Coordinate with civil, protection, control, and secondary engineering disciplines.
• Support design reviews, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.

About You

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 8+ years' experience in HV substation primary plant design.
• Previous experience in a lead or senior engineering role.
• Strong knowledge of AIS/GIS substations, UK National Grid, and IEC standards.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Bentley Substation, or similar design software.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
• Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it) is desirable.
