Job summary

Cirrus Selection Limited is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer based in Bedfordshire. You will own electrical and electronic subsystems for defence platforms, from initial trade studies through to customer sign-off, delivering robust, compliant, buildable solutions for harsh environments, including low and high-power DC systems and wiring harnesses.

The role follows a structured phase-gate process with derating, stress and EMC analysis, hands-on lab testing, and documentation such as

Qualifications

• Formal electrical qualification (HNC/HND or BEng) required.
• Experience in electrical hardware design for harsh environments.
• Derating, stress and tolerance analysis on electrical designs.
• Experience with electrical CAD or harness design tools (Zuken E3.series or Harnware).
• Experience in low/high power DC systems.
• EMC awareness at product and circuit level.
• Knowledge of Def-Stan or Mil standards and safety/quality processes.
• Hands-on lab experience with test equipment and debugging.
• Support for assembly, integration and test.
• DV clearance (or eligible) and ability to work full-time on site.

Responsibilities

Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Based in Bedfordshire

Salary from £50,000 to £62,000 (DOE) + 4-day working week, Bonus, Pension

If you're looking for a role where you will own the design, from the first trade study to the moment the customer signs it off, keep reading.

You will take ownership of electrical and electronic subsystems for defence platforms built to survive harsh environments. Sometimes that means bespoke design, sometimes it means pulling together the right COTS parts into a solution that is robust, compliant and actually buildable. Low and high-power DC systems, wiring harnesses, circuit protection, the lot.

You will work to a structured phase-gate process, shaping the functional and physical requirements that hold an integrated design together, then proving it. That means derating, stress and tolerance analysis, EMC thinking at product and circuit level, and getting hands-on in the lab to test, debug and evaluate your designs through assembly, integration and test.

You will write the documentation that goes with it, trade studies, requirements, compliance evidence and test reports, and you will be using Zuken, Harnware and Windchill, or tools like them, to do it.

This is not a heads-down, stay in your lane job either. You will support planning, procurement, material control and change control where the programme needs it, reporting to the Design Team Lead.

This role needs someone who holds DV clearance, or is eligible to obtain it, and it is full-time on site. If that rules you out, no hard feelings, but it is not negotiable.

What you will need:

• A formal electrical qualification, HNC, HND or BEng
• Electrical hardware design and product development experience for harsh environments
• Derating, stress and tolerance analysis on electrical designs
• Electrical CAD or harness design tools, Zuken (E3.series) or Harnware ideally
• Low and high power DC electrical system or sub-assembly design
• EMC awareness at product and circuit level
• Working knowledge of Def-Stan or Mil standards, plus safety and quality processes
• Hands on lab experience, test equipment and electrical circuit debug
• Support for assembly, integration and test
• DV clearance, or eligibility to obtain it, plus the ability to work full time on site

Nice to have:

• Windchill or another PLM tool
• Wiring harness and circuit protection design experience
• Exposure to planning, procurement or change control on defence programmes
