Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Our client, with over 40 years of experience in MEP Design Solutions, is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their Manchester office due to business growth.

The role is suitable for someone operating at a senior level or an intermediate engineer aspiring to advance. Candidates should be flexible, capable of hands-on design work, and involved in strategic and client management.

Ideal candidates will have experience with projects in Commercial Office Buildings, Industrial Buildings, Mixed Developments, Residential, and Leisure sectors.

Position Overview

• Collaborate as part of a team and mentor other members as needed.
• Knowledge of electricity and telecom utilities.
• Understanding of building regulations and their impact on building services design.
• Familiarity with IEE Regulations, cable selection and sizing, fault protection, and building load assessments.
• Experience in external and internal lighting design, including use of Dialux or similar software.
• Understanding of emergency lighting, BS5266, automatic lighting controls, fire alarm systems (BS5839), and PAVA voice alarm systems.
• Experience with VESDA smoke alarms and gas extinguishing systems for IT rooms.
• Knowledge of access control, intruder detection, and CCTV systems from a performance perspective.
• Development of security strategies for various building types.
• Understanding of structured wiring systems, including Cat 5/6/7 and optical fiber cables.
• Knowledge of PV installations, small-scale wind generation, and feasibility report preparation.
• Experience with G59 utility connections.
• Familiarity with CIBSE guides and RIBA/BSRIA project stages, including report and package preparation.
• Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD and 3D Revit, as industry trends move towards 3D modeling.

Position Requirements

• 10 years of experience in a similar role.
• Experience with AutoCAD 3D or Revit is an advantage.
• Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, and industry software such as Hevacomp, Amtech, and Dialux.
• Degree in Building Services or relevant qualifications.

Remuneration

• Working hours: 37.5 per week, flexible between 07:30 and 18:00.
• Holiday package: 25 days + 8 bank holidays.
• Pension scheme.
