Job summary

Staffbase Recruitment Ltd is recruiting a Senior Electrical Design Engineer for a client specialising in switchgear and control panels. The role involves owning electrical design from specification through to manufacture and testing, including schematics, component selection and BOMs, and supporting production and testing teams. A strong background in electrical CAD and standards is essential, with rail-related experience advantageous.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years’ senior electrical design engineer experience.
• Experience producing electrical schematics and technical documentation.
• Proficiency in electrical CAD software.
• Understanding of electrical components, manufacturing and testing processes.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Experience in railway electrification, protection and control circuits, switchgear testing or related standards is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Produce electrical designs, circuit diagrams, wiring schematics, calculations and documentation.
• Select electrical components and prepare equipment specs and BOMs.
• Support design reviews, prototypes, and design release for manufacture.
• Assist with testing, fault investigation and compliance documentation.
• Ensure designs meet IEC 62271, EN 50152 and IEC 60947.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing, assembly and testing teams.
• Liaise with suppliers, customers and internal departments.
• Drive product improvements in safety, reliability, manufacturability and cost.

Staffbase Recruitment Ltd has been appointed to recruit an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer for our client, an established engineering business specialising in the design and manufacture of switchgear and control panels.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer to join a specialist engineering business, taking ownership of electrical design and development activities from initial specification through to manufacture and testing.

The Role

• Producing electrical designs, circuit diagrams, wiring schematics, calculations and technical documentation.
• Selecting electrical components and preparing equipment specifications and bills of materials.
• Supporting design reviews, prototype development and design release for manufacture.
• Assisting with development, routine and type testing, fault investigation and compliance documentation.
• Ensuring designs meet relevant electrical standards, including IEC 62271, EN 50152 and IEC 60947.
• Providing technical support to manufacturing, assembly and testing teams.
• Liaising with suppliers, customers and internal departments to resolve technical queries.
• Driving product improvements in safety, reliability, manufacturability and cost.

The Ideal Candidate

You will be a qualified Electrical Engineer with at least 5 years’ senior electrical design engineer experience, ideally within switchgear, control panels or power distribution equipment.

You will also have:

• Experience producing electrical schematics and technical documentation.
• Proficiency in electrical CAD software.
• A sound understanding of electrical components, manufacturing and testing processes.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Experience in railway electrification, protection and control circuits, switchgear testing or relevant electrical standards would be advantageous.
