Job summary

Merck Life Science in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior EHS Specialist to drive a developing safety culture in a Cell Culture Media production facility. You will align with our High Impact Culture and support new product introductions by reviewing safety of materials and current systems of work.

You will define and implement EHS strategies, deliver training, monitor risk assessments, conduct audits, and investigate incidents.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Degree in Biological/Chemical science or engineering preferred.
  • Experience in a similar EHS role.
  • GMP/pharma environment experience desirable.

Your Role

As a Senior EHS Specialist you will work in a small team to drive a developing safety culture in a Cell Culture Media production facility. Aligning with our High Impact Culture you will support the introduction of new products by reviewing raw material and finished goods safety and review current systems of work. You will help define and implement EHS strategies, provide training, and monitor risk assessments. Your responsibilities will include ensuring compliance with regulations, conducting internal and external audits, and supporting incident investigations. A committed advocate for EHS improvements, you will support emergency response drills and champion Be Safe and Be Healthy programs. Serving as a central point of contact for regulatory bodies, you will assist in reviewing the safety of contractors on site, emphasizing your dedication to safety and environmental excellence. You will conduct process safety reviews in a production facility using corporate tools, Develop and deliver the site-wide periodic hazard review re-validation (Re-HAZOP) and define & deliver the site Environmental Programme.

Who You Are
  • Minimum NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification in safety management (Essential)
  • Degree or Equivalent in Biological or Chemical Science or Engineering (Desirable)
  • Previous experience working in a similar role.
  • Strong stakeholder management & communication skills.
  • Experience of driving EHS improvements.
  • Experience of working in an environment where hazardous substances can be used.
  • Experience working in a GMP or manufacturing/pharmaceutical environment (Desirable).
