Job summary

Amey is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join our HSEQ team on a hybrid basis. You will lead ecological commissions, oversee surveys, and deliver technically sound reports that meet quality, cost, and programme targets across rail projects in the UK.

You will develop ecological governance, support risk management, and mentor colleagues while advancing opportunities within ecological and environmental institutions. Chartered status or MCIEEM is preferred.

Qualifications

• Degree in Ecology or environmental topic
• Full membership of MCIEEM or equivalent
• Technical expertise in protected species licenses (e.g., bats or great crested newts)

Responsibilities

• Lead ecological surveys and governance across sites as required.
• Develop governance documentation for deliverables.
• Update governance docs on the IMS system.
• Gather ecological case studies and develop lessons learned for rail projects.
• Develop ecological processes for accounts to ensure compliance.
• Provide ecological training via in-person sessions, LearnUpon modules, webinars, and toolbox talks.
• Assist with work-winning and client biodiversity meetings.
• Liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attend progress meetings, respond to queries.
