Job summary

Elton Ecology is seeking a Senior Ecologist or experienced Consultant to join our growing team. You will scope, plan and deliver ecological projects across planning sectors, lead surveys and produce robust reports, with mentoring to junior ecologists.

We offer home, office or hybrid working with Midlands offices, a generous holiday allowance and supported CPD. A full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK are required.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable expertise in ecological surveys (botanical, habitat) and/or bat ecology.
• 4+ years in UK ecological consultancy.
• Ability to manage standard ecology projects and client relationships independently.
• Practical development-led ecology experience (PEAs, protected species surveys, reporting).
• Strong technical writing and knowledge of UK wildlife legislation.
• Competence using GIS, ideally QGIS.
• Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Scope, plan and deliver ecological projects, including fee proposals and survey design.
• Lead or oversee PEA, UKHab, habitat condition, BNG, protected species and/or EcIA work.
• Produce reports for planning that are clear and robust.
• Provide confident advice to clients and planning authorities.
• Manage project scope, deadlines, budgets and ecological risks.
• Mentor less experienced ecologists and maintain technical standards.
• Contribute ideas to improve operations and biodiversity outcomes.
