Job summary

Elton Ecology, an independent ecological consultancy, is hiring Senior Ecologists to work across the Midlands with home-based, office-based or hybrid arrangements. The role focuses on leading development-led ecology projects, delivering robust reports, and mentoring others.

You will manage PEAs, UKHab, habitat condition assessments and Biodiversity Net Gain, while shaping technical standards and contributing to the firm's growth.

Qualifications

• Experience managing ecology projects and client relationships.
• Experience with PEAs, UKHab, Biodiversity Net Gain, protected species surveys.
• Strong writing and reporting skills.
• Understanding of England wildlife legislation and planning guidance.
• Proactive, able to mentor junior ecologists.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Scope, plan and deliver ecological projects, including fee proposals and survey design.
• Lead or oversee PEA, UKHab, habitat condition, BNG, protected species and EcIA work.
• Produce and review clear, technically robust reports for planning.
• Provide confident, proportionate advice to clients, design teams, local authorities and stakeholders.
• Manage project scope, deadlines, budgets and ecological risks with commercial awareness.
• Mentor less experienced ecologists and maintain technical standards.
• Contribute ideas to improve how the business operates and client outcomes.
