Job summary

Blackfield Associates is seeking a Senior EC&I Engineer to own electrical, control and instrumentation design for process manufacturing facilities in pharma, life sciences and related sectors. You will lead projects from concept to commissioning, coordinating teams, clients, suppliers and regulators.

The role requires 5+ years in EC&I design within regulated industries, a relevant degree, and Chartered status or progress toward it. UK driving licence and right to work in the UK are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' EC&I design experience in pharma, life sciences, food manufacturing or related process industries.
• Degree in Electrical/Control/Instrumentation Engineering or related field.
• Strong experience delivering EC&I solutions in regulated manufacturing environments.
• Knowledge of Functional Safety (BS EN 61508/61511).
• Experience of ATEX hazardous area design and BS EN 60079 requirements.
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
• Strong project coordination and technical leadership capabilities.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Right to work in the UK (sponsorship not available).
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards.
• Membership of IET, InstMC, IChemE, or similar body.
• Knowledge of cGMP regulations and pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead EC&I design activities from concept through FEED to detailed design and construction support.
• Develop control philosophies for projects.
• Create EC&I solutions that meet project and regulatory requirements.
• Review and develop Process and Utility P&IDs.
• Prepare design calculations, specifications, and equipment data sheets.
• Support Functional Safety development in line with BS EN 61508 and 61511.
• Undertake ATEX hazardous area assessments and compliant designs.
• Provide technical leadership to multidisciplinary project teams.
• Coordinate internal resources, external partners, and suppliers.
• Support procurement, commissioning and qualification activities.
• Mentor junior engineers and develop engineering capability.
• Support client relationships, proposals and business development.
