Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc in Redcar and Cleveland is recruiting a Senior E&I Construction Manager to lead electrical and instrumentation aspects of the Net Zero Teesside project.

You will oversee engineering deliverables, manage a team of Construction Managers, ensure safety, plan installation sequences, and coordinate interfaces across process licensors, civil/structural, and BBK MEP scope. The role requires experience on large-scale energy or industrial projects and knowledge of UK standards.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record on large-scale energy, industrial, or process plant projects.
  • Strong understanding of multi-disciplinary plant integration (piping, electrical, instrumentation, mechanical).
  • Experience managing complex engineering packages from design through construction.
  • Working knowledge of UK standards and regulations (health & safety, COMAH, ATEX/DSEAR).

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve electrical/instrumentation deliverables for CCUS systems.
  • Lead a team of Construction Managers.
  • Demonstrate safety leadership to uphold a zero-harm culture.
  • Lead by example with a 100% safety focus across the project.
  • Manage design interfaces between process licensors, civil/structural teams, and BBK’s MEP scope.
  • Provide constructability reviews and value engineering input during design development.
  • Lead planning and sequencing of installation works for carbon capture equipment.
  • Ensure integration of mechanical and electrical systems into plant modules or site-built systems.
  • Support commissioning planning and interface with commissioning engineers.
  • Review supplier submissions and align with project requirements.
  • Manage variations and change control for carbon capture scope.
  • Review risk assessments and method statements for carbon capture works.
  • Provide progress reports, forecasts, and risk updates to leadership.
  • Represent BBK in technical meetings and CCUS industry forums.

As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Senior E&I Construction Manager to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

Role Purpose

As Senior E&I Construction Manager, you will be responsible for the effective management of the electrical aspects of the project including engineering, design, procurement, construction and commissioning and completion/handover.

What you’ll be doing
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables related to electrical and instrumentation for carbon capture systems.
  • Lead a team of Construction Managers
  • Demonstrate appropriate Health and Safety leadership to ensure that the safety first and foremost message is visible and alive throughout all activities relating to the project.
  • To lead by example and ensure 100% focus on safety across the project
  • Manage design interfaces between process licensors, civil/structural teams, and BBK’s MEP scope.
  • Provide constructability reviews and value engineering input during design development.
  • Lead the planning and sequencing of installation works for carbon capture equipment.
  • Ensure integration of mechanical and electrical systems into plant modules or site-built systems.
  • Support commissioning planning and interface with commissioning engineers.
  • Review supplier technical submissions and ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Manage variations and change control for carbon capture scope.
  • Ensure safe design and installation methods are adopted, in line with BBK’s zero-harm culture.
  • Review risk assessments and method statements for carbon capture works.
  • Provide regular progress reports, forecasts, and risk updates to project leadership.
  • Represent BBK in technical meetings and industry forums related to CCUS.
  • Adopt and proactively demonstrate a “Right First Time” ethos
Who we’re looking for
  • Proven track record on large-scale energy, industrial, or process plant projects (e.g. power generation, petrochemical, oil & gas, or heavy MEP).
  • Maintaining positive relationships with the client through efficient delivery of project requirements with a view to optimising future opportunities and profitability
  • Strong understanding of multi-disciplinary plant integration (piping, electrical, instrumentation, mechanical equipment).
  • Demonstrable experience of managing complex engineering packages from design through construction.
  • Working knowledge of UK standards and regulations (health & safety, pressure systems, COMAH, ATEX/DSEAR)
