Job summary

Lonza Group Ltd. seeks a Senior Scientist for R&D Purification in Slough to lead laboratory-scale purification studies and primary recovery optimisation. The role focuses on chromatography and filtration, data-driven decision making, and collaboration with Analytical, Upstream and Manufacturing Science & Technology teams.

You will contribute to evaluating emerging downstream technologies, delivering technical reports, and supporting continuous improvement in a lab-on-site environment in the UK.

Qualifications

• Degree in biotechnology, chemistry, chemical engineering or related field; postgraduate qualification advantageous.
• Practical lab experience in downstream processing including chromatography and filtration.
• Strong data interpretation skills for complex datasets.
• Knowledge of DSP unit operations, process optimisation and troubleshootings.
• Ability to design experiments and apply scientific principles to technical challenges.
• Clear report-writing and strong communication; team-oriented mindset.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute laboratory-scale purification and primary recovery studies.
• Perform chromatography and filtration experiments and analyse datasets.
• Evaluate and optimise downstream technologies to improve efficiency.
• Support adoption of emerging downstream processing technologies.
• Deliver high-quality technical reports and recommendations.
• Collaborate with Analytical, Upstream, and MS&T teams; ensure data integrity and safety.
