Job summary

BNY Mellon in London seeks a Senior Director, Lead Engineer & Architect to own the end-to-end technical architecture for a new platform combining modern web apps, distributed services and distributed ledger tech. You will lead a hands-on, full-stack team, set technical direction, mentor engineers and contribute code.

You will design front-end and back-end components and integrate with smart contracts and the ledger layer.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in financial services technology and senior technical leadership of complex platforms.
• Hands-on architect who still writes production code while leading and developing engineering teams.
• Delivery experience on blockchain or distributed ledger projects, including smart contract development and security considerations.
• Broad full-stack depth across multiple back-end languages/frameworks and front-end frameworks.
• Deep knowledge of distributed/microservice architectures and API-first design.
• Experience in high availability, scalable, and cloud-native deployment.
• Strong CI/CD, testing strategies and DevOps practices.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management with senior leaders.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end architectural design for a new platform combining web apps, distributed services and ledger tech.
• Lead and grow a full-stack engineering team; set direction, mentor, and contribute code.
• Design and integrate front-end, back-end and smart-contract components with the ledger layer.
• Define architecture decisions and API standards; document key decisions.
• Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to shape the technical roadmap.
• Drive engineering excellence: automated testing, CI/CD, code reviews, observability.
