Job summary

GlaxoSmithKline is seeking a Senior Director for R&D AI & Technology Transformation. This role leads strategic technology programmes, partnering with senior leaders to clarify strategy, value objectives and roadmaps.

You will influence decisions without direct authority and connect programmes with broader technology strategy. You will shape new technology initiatives, define governance and funding, and drive value through rigorous analysis and external market insight.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in technology, CS, life sciences, engineering or related discipline.
• Significant experience leading strategic technology, AI or digital transformation in a large pharmaceutical environment.
• Strong knowledge of drug research or development and credibility with scientific, operational and technology leaders.
• Experience shaping cross-functional strategic projects in complex organisations.
• Experience evaluating technology capabilities, operating models, partnerships or build-versus-buy decisions.
• Ability to use structured analysis to develop recommendations and support implementation.
• Executive-level communication and influencing skills with senior leaders.
• Hands-on contribution and sound judgement in fast-moving environments.

Responsibilities

• Partner with leaders of priority technology programmes to clarify strategy, scope and value objectives.
• Provide independent, evidence-based view of progress, risks and value delivery to support decisions.
• Lead work on build, buy or partner choices, capability sourcing and operating models.
• Assess capabilities for competitive advantage and external sourcing options.
• Translate between scientific, operational and technical stakeholders to enable clear choices.
• Contribute to strategic projects within the wider portfolio while programme owners remain accountable.
