Job summary

ICO is seeking a Principal Technology Adviser to shape online trust and digital identity policy. You will influence regulatory approaches for trust services and digital verification, collaborating with senior colleagues to deliver strategic technical assessments and policy recommendations.

You will work across PKI, cryptography, and standards, contributing to national and international discussions while developing specialist expertise in evolving online trust technologies.

Qualifications

• Solid understanding of PKI and cryptographic concepts underpinning online trust.
• Knowledge of standards/specifications underpinning online trust ecosystems (ETSI, ISO, OpenID, W3C VC).
• Strong analytical skills and ability to translate technical insights into regulatory outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical advice on technology projects and information rights policy.
• Support supervisory functions under UK eIDAS for trusted services.
• Contribute expertise on digital identity, authentication, and trust services.
