Job summary

Nottinghamshire Police are recruiting a Senior Digital Evidence Technician within the Digital Forensics Unit. You will recover, process and prepare digital evidence, ensuring material follows procedures and is suitable for investigators, CPS and Courts.

You will also provide technical guidance, help coordinate DFU activity and support evidence quality and auditability within the unit. A degree in Forensic/Digital Forensics or equivalent is required, with travel as needed.

Main Purpose of Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Nottinghamshire Police as a Senior Digital Evidence Technician within the Digital Forensics Unit. You will recover, process and prepare digital evidence from a wide range of devices, ensuring material is handled in line with accredited procedures and presented in formats suitable for investigators, CPS and the Courts. You will also provide technical support and guidance to colleagues and service users, support the day-to-day coordination of DFU activity, and help maintain the quality, continuity and reliability of digital evidence used within the Criminal Justice System.

Key Skills & Experience Required

We are looking for someone with experience of working in an accredited forensic science, digital forensic or computing environment, with strong technical knowledge of modern digital technologies, operating systems, device architecture, connectivity and networking. You will be confident using tools and techniques to extract, reproduce, review and present digital data from devices. You will have excellent attention to detail, a methodical approach to problem solving, and the ability to explain technical processes clearly to colleagues, investigators, partners and court users. Experience of supporting small teams, mentoring colleagues, conducting audits, peer review or quality assurance activity would be beneficial.

The successful candidate will support the effective running of the DFU by reviewing submissions, assisting with examination strategies, maintaining accurate records, supporting evidential reports and statements, and contributing to auditability and continuous improvement within the unit. You will be expected to work within strict procedures and protocols while using initiative to identify improvements and support a professional, high-performing and close-knit team.

Applicants should hold a degree-level qualification in Forensic Science, Digital Forensics or a related discipline, or have equivalent experience in an accredited forensic or computing field. You should hold, or be willing to undertake, relevant technical auditor training and suitable industry training or certification in digital forensics or digital multimedia products. The role requires flexibility, the ability to travel when required.
