We have an exciting opportunity to join the SW Forensics team in a new role as a Digital Forensics Compliance Officer.

About the role:

Join our Digital Forensics team and help ensure the highest standards of quality, integrity, and compliance in digital forensic investigations.

Working closely with the Digital Forensic Technical Lead Manager, you'll provide independent quality assurance through peer reviews, audits, and compliance activities, helping to ensure forensic work meets accreditation and regulatory requirements.

Using your expertise in digital forensics, you'll review examinations, reports, and processes, offering guidance and constructive challenge to support accurate, reliable, and legally robust forensic evidence. Your work will play a key role in maintaining accreditation, managing forensic risk, and supporting the criminal justice system.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Review digital forensic reports and casework, providing independent quality assurance, constructive feedback, and expert guidance to ensure evidential integrity, accuracy, and compliance with forensic standards.
  • Carry out audits, peer reviews, and forensic risk assessments to identify risks, non-conformances, training needs, and opportunities for continuous improvement, escalating concerns where appropriate.
  • Support software testing, validation, verification, and compliance activities, ensuring forensic tools, processes, and casework meet accreditation requirements and the Forensic Science Regulator (FSR) Code.
  • Maintain and improve the Quality Management System (QMS), including forensic procedures, technical documentation, and quality records, ensuring they reflect current practices and support organisational compliance.
  • Assist in the investigation and resolution of quality issues, helping implement corrective actions, process improvements, and policy updates to reduce risk and enhance service delivery.
  • Work collaboratively across a regional partnership of four police forces to promote consistent forensic standards, quality assurance, and best practice.
Experience and Qualifications:
  • A qualification in Digital Forensics, Computer Science, ICT, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Significant experience working within a digital forensic environment, including conducting, interpreting, and reporting on examinations of computers, mobile devices, and digital storage media.
  • Extensive knowledge of digital forensic principles, methodologies, tools, and reporting standards, with the ability to review and provide constructive challenge and guidance on forensic casework.
  • Good understanding of forensic quality and accreditation standards, including ISO 17025 and the Forensic Science Regulator (FSR) Code, and their practical application within a forensic setting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to communicate complex technical or compliance matters clearly to a range of audiences.
  • Proven ability to make sound professional judgements, manage risk, and work independently while maintaining high standards of quality and integrity.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with forensic practitioners, managers, and wider stakeholders.
Additional Information:

A Full UK driving license, or the ability to travel by other means, unless prevented by reason of disability.

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 5 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 5 years.
