Job summary

Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is seeking a Lead DevOps Engineer to drive modern DevOps across our digital landscape in the UK’s largest government department.

You will own end-to-end cloud and automation delivery, shaping policies, standards and secure, scalable platforms using Azure, Terraform and Kubernetes. This hands-on leadership role combines technical depth with strategic influence to deliver reliable public services.

Qualifications

• Advanced capability in pipeline engineering and IaC with Terraform and Azure tooling.
• Experience building scalable container platforms with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Secure-by-design and Zero Trust principles, including secrets management and RBAC.
• Proficient in Python with scripting in PowerShell and Bash for automation.
• Autonomous, self-managing leader with end-to-end ownership of complex services.
• Azure platform expertise across core compute, networking, storage, identity and security.

Responsibilities

• Lead adoption of modern DevOps practices and build scalable cloud solutions.
• Mentor engineers and raise standards across the organisation.
• Define technical direction, set standards, and influence stakeholders to deliver measurable outcomes.
