Job summary

RG Setsquare is seeking a Principal Development Management Planner to lead a busy North London planning service during a sustained period of development activity. You will manage a complex caseload of major projects, mentor junior officers and provide expert planning advice to applicants and stakeholders.

The role requires significant Development Management experience in a UK local authority, strong knowledge of planning legislation, and excellent report writing.

Qualifications

• Significant Development Management experience within a UK local authority environment.
• Strong knowledge of current planning legislation and policy.
• Experience handling major and complex planning applications.
• Excellent report writing and stakeholder management skills.
• MRTPI qualification preferred but not essential for candidates with extensive relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Managing a complex caseload of major and strategic planning applications.
• Preparing detailed committee reports and delegated officer decisions.
• Providing professional planning advice to applicants, stakeholders and elected members.
• Negotiating planning obligations and contributing to successful development outcomes.
• Supporting team leaders with mentoring, quality assurance and case management.
• Representing the Council at planning committee meetings, hearings and appeals where required.
