Job summary

Professional Technical Ltd seeks a Senior Development Designer to lead the design of complex POS products from concept to production in the East Midlands. You will drive DFMA, manage prototypes and coordinate with overseas suppliers while ensuring cost and quality targets are met.

The role requires a strong engineering background in design for manufacture, advanced knowledge of plastics processes, and expert SolidWorks skills to deliver production-ready models and drawings.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Product Design Engineer or Mechanical Engineer in manufacturing.
• Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
• Strong background in POS/POP design (highly desirable).
• Expertise in design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA).
• Advanced knowledge of plastic injection moulding and fabrication processes.
• High proficiency in SolidWorks with production-ready models and drawings.

A global leader in point-of-sale (POS) innovation is seeking an experienced Senior Development Designer to join their high-performing engineering team in the East Midlands. This is a pivotal role within a business that partners with some of the most recognisable brands in retail, delivering complex, high-impact display solutions across plastic fabrication, injection moulding and advanced manufacturing processes.

Key responsibilities of the Senior Development Designer will include:

• Leading the design and development of complex POS products from concept through to production, utilising expertise in injection moulding, sheet metal fabrication, vacuum forming and other manufacturing processes.
• Driving DFM strategy and overseeing overseas manufacturing development, working closely with international suppliers, production partners and cross-functional teams.
• Managing prototyping and production, ensuring seamless transition from prototype to mass manufacture while maintaining quality, cost and performance targets.
• Championing engineering best practice, conducting technical reviews, identifying improvements and ensuring robust documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

To be successful in this Senior Development Designer role, you should demonstrate:

• Proven experience as a Product Design Engineer, Senior Product Development Engineer, or Mechanical Engineer within a manufacturing environment.
• A relevant engineering degree or equivalent technical qualification.
• Strong background in POS / POP design (highly desirable).
• Expertise in design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA).
