Job description

We are looking for a Senior Graphic Designer to join our studio. The role focuses on developing original, thoughtful designs across brand identity, digital and print, and leading projects from initial concept through to final delivery. This is a full-time position (37.5 hours, 5 days per week) based in person at our studio in east London. You should have 5+ years’ experience working in a creative studio or equivalent, and enjoy working collaboratively. We welcome and encourage applications from candidates who are under-represented in the creative industries.

About Us

A Practice for Everyday Life is a creative direction, design and type studio founded in 2003. Collaborating with cultural institutions, global brands and individuals, we create meaningful, original design through research and consultancy. We work across brand identities, campaigns, digital, editorial design and custom type.

Working at APFEL
  • Flexible daily working hours around our core working hours.
  • An off-site cultural outing bi-monthly — visiting a gallery, house or exhibition together.
  • Regular studio socials, including opportunities to attend private openings and events at galleries and museums.
  • Catered team lunches once a month.
  • Increased holiday allowance after 3 years at APFEL.
  • Studio closure between Christmas and New Year.
  • Workplace pension scheme.
About the Role
  • Develop intelligent and original design solutions across brand identity, print, digital, type and 2D motion.
  • Develop and extend identity systems across websites, digital applications and 2D motion.
  • Lead assigned projects from initial research and concept development through to production and final delivery, working closely with the Directors and Design Directors.
  • Act as a key client contact on assigned projects, managing day-to-day communication, schedules and feedback in collaboration with the wider team and creative partners.
  • Communicate ideas clearly to clients and colleagues, contributing actively to creative discussions and confidently preparing and delivering presentations.
  • Support the development of more junior members of the team, sharing knowledge and providing constructive guidance and feedback.
Your Experience and Skills
  • Excellent graphic design and typographic skills, with experience working across brand identity, print and digital design.
  • Strong experience designing responsive websites in Figma, with a good understanding of how identity systems translate into digital environments.
  • Advanced technical skills in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Experience bringing graphic identities to life through 2D motion, using After Effects, Cavalry or similar software, with an interest in developing these skills further.
  • Strong understanding of print production, with the ability to accurately artwork files and prepare work for production.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and time-management skills.
  • A strong interest in contemporary design, typography, art and culture.
  • Collaborative, proactive, curious and keen to learn.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a graphic design role within a creative studio or equivalent, with experience leading projects from concept through to delivery.
  • Experience using Glyphs and a good understanding of type design is an advantage.
