Job summary

Bennett Construction is seeking a Design Manager in London to coordinate design elements across a project, ensuring design quality and timely delivery. You will liaise between client, design consultants, and project staff, reporting to the Construction Director.

The role requires a diploma/degree in Engineering and at least 5 years’ experience in residential or mixed development construction, preferably with a main contractor.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years residential/mixed development construction experience.
• Thorough knowledge of Windows, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project/Powerproject.
• Thorough understanding of the construction industry and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent ability to analyse and interpret contractual documents.
• Proven excellent analytical and organisational skills.
• Strong self-confidence, good judgement, and the ability to make sound decisions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to interact professionally with clients, regulators and Bennett staff at all levels.
• Flexibility and adaptability to changing environments.

Responsibilities

• Develop innovative design solutions to client briefs and contractor proposals while coordinating the professional team and subcontractors.
• Thoroughly appraise tender documentation to identify risks, opportunities, information gaps, or design issues.
• Develop relationships with clients from concept stage, managing expectations through regular communication.
• Manage relationships for the whole project team and resolve queries.
• Review design ongoingly to identify interface problems and practicalities for construction.
• Represent the company on D&B matters and attend meetings with potential clients.
• Keep abreast of industry developments and advise on changes in practice.
