The Workshop in Portsmouth is seeking a Senior Design Manager to lead a design team within a growing precision engineering and manufacturing business. You will drive innovation, modernise processes and help shape the company’s expansion with AI-enabled CAD tools and new manufacturing capabilities.

Preferably a Master's in Mechanical Engineering with 7+ years CAD design experience and expert Autodesk Inventor skills; you'll mentor staff and collaborate across sales and production to deliver

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 7+ years CAD design experience in precision engineering/manufacturing.
• Expert-level knowledge of Autodesk Inventor.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams.

Aufgaben

• Lead a design team producing and maintaining 3D CAD models and drawings.
• Create manufacturing drawings with tolerances, materials and finishes.
• Review and streamline design processes to improve efficiency.
• Introduce AI-assisted tools to enhance CAD modelling and automate tasks.
• Support CAM development and future manufacturing capabilities.
• Mentor junior engineers and support apprentices.
• Collaborate with sales and manufacturing to optimise solutions.
• Develop new products using emerging technologies including 3D printing.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a team of design engineers, producing and maintaining detailed 3D CAD models and drawings.
• Create accurate manufacturing drawings, including tolerances, materials and finishes.
• Review and streamline design processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Introduce AI-assisted tools to enhance CAD modelling and automate repetitive tasks.
• Support the development of CAM processes and future manufacturing capabilities.
• Mentor junior engineers and support future apprentices.
• Collaborate with sales and manufacturing teams to optimise customer solutions.
• Develop new products using emerging technologies, including 3D printing.

Skills & Knowledge Required

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• 7+ years' CAD design experience within precision engineering or manufacturing.
• Expert-level knowledge of Autodesk Inventor.
• Proven experience managing and leading engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
• Excellent technical drawing and 3D modelling skills.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted design tools or software is desirable.
• Experience with 3D printing, particularly metal components, is desirable.
