Job summary

Workshop Recruitment is seeking a Senior Design Manager in Portsmouth to lead a design engineering team. You will drive CAD design efforts, develop 3D models and manufacturing drawings, and push for efficiency gains across processes.

The role requires a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, 7+ years CAD design experience in precision engineering or manufacturing, and expert knowledge of Autodesk Inventor. AI tools and metal 3D printing experience are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
• 7+ years CAD design experience in precision engineering or manufacturing.
• Expert-level knowledge of Autodesk Inventor.
• Experience leading engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
• Excellent technical drawing and 3D modelling skills.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted design tools is desirable.
• Experience with 3D printing, especially metal components, is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of design engineers creating and maintaining detailed 3D CAD models and drawings.
• Create accurate manufacturing drawings with tolerances, materials and finishes.
• Review and streamline design processes to improve efficiency.
• Introduce AI-assisted design tools to enhance CAD modelling and automate tasks.
• Support development of CAM processes and future manufacturing capabilities.
• Mentor junior engineers and support apprentices.
• Collaborate with sales and manufacturing to optimize customer solutions.
• Develop new products using emerging technologies, including 3D printing.
