Job summary

Workshop Recruitment in Portsmouth seeks a Senior Design Manager to lead a design team in a precision engineering business, driving modernisation and growth. You will steer engineering processes and introduce new technologies to shape the operation's future.

You will manage CAD teams, produce detailed 3D models and drawings in Autodesk Inventor, create manufacturing drawings, mentor engineers and collaborate with sales and manufacturing to deliver optimized customer solutions.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 7+ years CAD design experience in precision engineering/manufacturing.
• Expert Autodesk Inventor knowledge.
• Proven leadership of engineering teams.
• Strong engineering and manufacturing process knowledge.
• Excellent drawing and 3D modelling skills.
• Desirable familiarity with AI-assisted design tools.
• Desirable 3D printing experience with metal components.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of design engineers, producing and maintaining detailed 3D CAD models and drawings.
• Create accurate manufacturing drawings, including tolerances, materials and finishes.
• Review and streamline design processes to improve efficiency.
• Introduce AI-assisted tools to enhance CAD modelling and automate repetitive tasks.
• Support the development of CAM processes and future manufacturing capabilities.
• Mentor junior engineers and support future apprentices.
• Collaborate with sales and manufacturing teams to optimise customer solutions.
• Develop new products using emerging technologies, including 3D printing.
