Design and Development Engineering is central to our work, and we lead in propulsion system design for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarines.

We have Mechanical Design Engineer opportunities across key areas such as Nuclear Primary Components, Secondary Propulsion Components, In-Service Support and Maintenance, Special Purpose Tooling and Equipment, and our Future Product division.

What you will be doing:

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will create component, assembly, and system designs with through-life justification, considering life, cost, availability, and safety margins.

  • Designing full lifecycle solutions from concept to disposal
  • Collaborating across disciplines like manufacturing, simulation, materials, testing, and supply chain
  • Documenting and verifying against engineering standards
  • Presenting at technical reviews
  • Publishing safety and technical reports for customer and regulatory review
Who we’re looking for:

  • Experienced Mechanical Design Engineer, preferably with exposure to process plant, mechanical components, machining, tooling, handling, lifting, or special machinery
  • Proficient with CAD design software
  • Experience from industries such as Civil Nuclear, Marine, Petro-Chemical, Oil & Gas, or Special Purpose Machinery
  • Relevant engineering qualification or experience (Chartered, Degree, HND, HNC, or Apprentice Trained)
