Our Submarines Business is responsible for the design, manufacture, supply and through-life support of nuclear propulsion-related products and systems in support of the Royal Navy's submarine fleet. We support the Royal Navy as the Technical Authority for all UK Naval Reactor Submarine Plants, and we're continuing to build our nuclear sector capability to support the development of a new nuclear plant for future submarines. We are looking for a capable and proactive individual to join our growing team and be responsible for control and instrumentation packages across a new state of art nuclear manufacturing facility. You will be working across multiple projects and lifecycle stages in order to ensure that the areas under your responsibility meet both our engineering and project requirements. You will be able to interact with various stakeholders both internal and external to the business in order to be successful.

Although experience of working with nuclear facilities is certainly advantageous, we invite applications from those that are interested in redeploying their existing capabilities in a new area. What is most important is having the right approach; you need to be someone who can work with and influence engineers from other disciplines so that chemical engineering is an integral part of the overall engineering solution.

As a C&I design engineer, you will be a member of the facility engineering team, and will have specific responsibilities for the design of plant control systems, safety systems and design of control rooms.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home or another remote location. It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What you will be doing:

You will collect, analyse and translate high level requirements into a validated design for the a manufacturing plant control system.

• Produce concept designs and conduct robust optioneering for meeting the operational and safety requirements of the new facilities.
• Ownership of specific C&I systems, including planning, and integrating systems with plant engineering.
• Provide validation and verification strategies for the C&I systems and ensure compliance of design with relevant design standards.
• Design and substantiation of nuclear safety systems to high QA requirements and reliability.
• Analyses system designs for functional behaviour, which may include modelling and simulation to demonstrate that the design meets the high level requirements. Develops and reviews testing that will provide evidence to demonstrate that the electrical requirements have been satisfied
• Manages supply chain technical engagement for system detailed design and integration.
• Develops, implements, documents, and maintains policies, procedures, associated guidelines, tools and training as required.

• Degree in relevant Engineering discipline or equivalent, or demonstrative experience in domain area
• Demonstrative experiences of system engineering, integration, verification and validation techniques
• The ability to build strong working relationships with staff from all levels and disciplines
• Experience in the nuclear industry is desirable, however, full training will be provided
