Job summary

ALTEN LTD - UK is seeking a Senior Design Engineer for our Brentwood team to support marine, industrial, and automotive projects. You will lead the design and development of innovative engineering solutions across the full product lifecycle, from concept through manufacture, testing and deployment.

You will collaborate with internal teams, customers, suppliers and certification bodies to deliver safe, practical, and high‑quality designs while mentoring junior engineers and ensuring regulatory

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
• 10–15 years of mechanical design engineering experience.
• Experience delivering projects to international standards.
• Experience leading engineering design activities and product development programmes.

Responsibilities

• Generate innovative engineering designs using proven technologies and problem‑solving.
• Lead mechanical design from concept through detailed design and production.
• Apply DFM/ DFA principles throughout the design process.
• Collaborate with CAE engineers to meet performance requirements.
• Produce design reports and presentations for senior stakeholders.
• Ensure CAD designs are released in line with BoM requirements.
• Coordinate with Project Managers and Principal Engineers to meet objectives, schedules and costs.
• Mentor junior engineers and support design-process improvements.
• Ensure designs comply with engineering and regulatory standards across the lifecycle.
