Job summary

Severfield in York is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join our team and deliver code-compliant, high-quality structural steelwork solutions for projects across the UK. You will be responsible for analyses, design work, and coordinating with draughtspersons to ensure buildable, compliant outcomes.

The role requires deep knowledge of steel design with temporary works, a civil/structural engineering degree, and ideally MIStructE chartership.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of structural steelwork design including complex solutions and temporary works
• Understanding of buildability on major construction sites and fabrication shop
• Degree or Masters in civil/structural engineering
• Chartered Structural Engineer MIStructE preferred

Responsibilities

• Understand engineering principles and apply them to design challenges
• Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to produce practical design solutions
• Carry out structural analysis and design for building regulations submissions
• Produce detailed design sketches for draughtsperson with buildability and safety in mind
• Liaise with internal and external design teams to ensure compliant design
• Assess and define temporary works requirements
• Ensure compliance with procedures, QA and safety legislation and contracts
• Provide technical assistance to junior engineers

The purpose of this role is to deliver code-compliant, high-quality structural steelwork solutions that meet client requirements, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget

Key Tasks & Accountabilities

• Have a sound understanding of engineering principles
• Be able to work with external clients and internal stakeholders to produce practical design solutions
• Carry out structural analysis and design to produce calculations for building regulations submission
• Produce detailed design sketches to convey to draughtsperson with due regard to buildability and health & safety
• Liaise with internal and external design teams to ensure that the design brief is clear, and a compliant design is produced
• Assess, design and clearly define temporary works requirements
• Ensure compliance with the company operating procedures, quality assurance, statutory safety legislation and our contractual responsibilities
• Take responsibility for all technical aspects of a project and provide assistance to junior engineers

Required Skills and Experience:

• Extensive knowledge of structural steelwork design including complex solutions and temporary works solutions
• A good understanding of buildability issues on major construction sites as well as in the fabrication shop.

Required Qualifications:

• Degree or Masters Degree in civil / structural engineering
• Preferably Chartered Structural Engineer MIStructE
