Job summary

NES Fircroft seeks a Senior MEP Design Engineer to lead and coordinate MEP design across large-scale infrastructure projects in the United Kingdom. You will work with project leadership, consultants and clients to ensure safe, on-schedule, and cost-effective design delivery.

The role emphasises BIM adoption, design management, and value engineering while maintaining high standards of health, safety and quality. You will mentor teams and drive digital design initiatives across projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering or related field.
• 6+ years in design coordination, design management or MEP engineering roles.
• Experience delivering construction or infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of MEP design principles and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Knowledge of BIM processes and digital design tools.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate MEP design activities from concept through construction delivery.
• Manage the design programme to achieve milestones.
• Develop and maintain Design Responsibility Matrices for design ownership.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary consultants and stakeholders for seamless integration.
• Monitor design progress, identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
• Drive value engineering to improve cost efficiency and sustainability.
• Ensure designs comply with health, safety, environmental, quality, and regulatory standards.
• Support procurement by defining technical scopes and assisting with tenders.
• Facilitate design reviews and workshops with clients and project teams.
• Present design solutions and capture stakeholder requirements throughout development.
• Support management of consultant contracts, variations, and commercial aspects.
• Review consultant performance and payment applications.
• Promote BIM and digital engineering solutions.
• Collaborate with construction teams to ensure buildable designs.

About the Opportunity

An established international construction and infrastructure organisation is seeking a Senior MEP Design Engineer to join its growing Design Management team. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of large-scale, complex construction projects, working closely with project leadership, consultants, clients, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating the MEP design process throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring design solutions are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme, and within budget. You will also have the opportunity to drive innovation, digital engineering initiatives, and value engineering opportunities across major projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate MEP design activities from concept through to construction delivery.

Requirements

• Degree-qualified in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 6 years' experience within design coordination, design management, or MEP engineering roles.
• Proven experience delivering construction or infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of MEP design principles and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Knowledge and practical experience of BIM processes and digital design tools.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

  Understanding of relevant health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities within fast-paced project environments.
• Commercial awareness and experience working within budget-driven projects.
• Experience working on major infrastructure, transportation, energy, or complex building projects.
• Previous leadership or people management experience.
• Experience of design contract administration and consultant management.
• Chartered status or working toward professional accreditation.
