Job summary

Morgan Ryder Associates seeks an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in Blackpool to lead mechanical design from concept to manufacture for aerospace, defence and space projects.

You will develop mechanical structures, work across multidisciplinary teams, and deliver high‑quality engineering solutions within a regulated industry. British citizenship and security clearance eligibility are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience leading engineering projects.
• Strong 3D CAD skills and ability to produce complete design packages.
• Experience producing technical documentation and design reviews.
• Knowledge of material properties (metallic and non‑metallic).
• Clear communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed mechanical design data: 3D models, 2D drawings, schematics, BOMs.
• Produce design documentation: FMEAs, manuals, CE marking docs, investigations, reports, design reviews.
• Represent design during customer design reviews.
• Apply Design for Manufacture and Design for Additive Manufacture.
• Incorporate Poka‑Yoke, ergonomics and HMI principles where applicable.
• Review data for quality and technical standards compliance.
• Support project planning, quotations, customer engagement and PM activities.
• Mentor junior engineers.
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative solutions.

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team delivering innovative mechanical design solutions to the aerospace, defence and space industries.

Working across a variety of challenging projects, you will be responsible for the development of mechanical structures from concept through to detailed design and manufacture. This role offers the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary environment where design, analysis and additive manufacturing are combined to deliver high-performance engineered solutions.

The successful candidate will play a key role in leading projects, interfacing with customers, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions within a highly regulated industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Create detailed mechanical design data including 3D models, 2D drawings, schematics and Bills of Materials.
• Produce supporting design documentation including FMEAs, user manuals, CE marking documentation, technical investigations, reports and design reviews.
• Represent the design function during customer design review meetings.
• Apply Design for Manufacture and Design for Additive Manufacture principles throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Incorporate Poka-Yoke, ergonomics, aesthetics and Human Machine Interface principles into designs where applicable.
• Review and check engineering design data to ensure compliance with quality and technical standards.
• Support project planning, quotations, customer engagement and project management activities.
• Assist in the mentoring and development of junior engineering team members.
• Work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative engineering solutions.

About You

• Must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance.
• Degree qualified (BEng/MEng or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or working experience within a Mechanical Design role.
• Experience leading engineering projects.
• Strong capability in 3D CAD design and creation of complete engineering design packages.
• Experience producing technical documentation and supporting engineering reports.
• Knowledge of metallic and non-metallic material properties.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong problem-solving abilities with the confidence to work independently.
• High attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality engineering solutions.

• Experience within the aerospace, defence or space sectors.
• Experience using CATIA and associated PLM systems.
