Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience with metals/plastics/alloys is desirable.
• Knowledge of prototyping, testing, DFM helpful.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Produce mechanical designs meeting performance, reliability, and cost requirements.
• Create and maintain drawings, BOMs, and assembly instructions.
• Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure practical designs.
• Assist with technical issue resolution.
• Ensure compatibility across components and systems.
• Carry out basic FEA/CAE analysis to support decisions.
• Support design optimisation and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with internal teams on new product development.
• Ensure designs meet standards, regulations, and quality requirements.
• Assist with test planning, validation, and development activities.
• Support testing and ongoing design improvements.

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Design Engineer who for leading engineering business in Ipswich, Suffolk.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on a variety of projects, supporting the development of high-quality, cost-effective mechanical designs within a supportive and experienced team.

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting junior members in the design team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is looking to take that next step in their career.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce mechanical designs that meet performance, reliability, and cost requirements
• Create and maintain documentation including drawings, BOMs, and assembly instructions
• Work closely with manufacturing and production teams to ensure designs are practical and efficient
• Assist in dealing with technical issues & finding resolutions
• Ensure compatibility across components, assemblies, and wider systems
• Carry out basic FEA/CAE analysis to support decisions
• Support continuous improvement and design optimisation activities
• Collaborating with internal teams on new product development
• Ensure designs meet relevant standards, regulations, and quality requirements
• Assist with test planning, validation, and development activities
• Support testing and contribute to ongoing design improvements

About You:

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Experience or understanding of working with metals, plastics, or alloys
• Basic knowledge of engineering development processes (prototyping, testing, DFM)
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Motivated, proactive, and eager to develop your career

Technical Skills:

• Proficient with 2D & 3D CAD software
• Exposure to FEA tools (e.g. ANSYS) desirable
• Previous experience supporting junior team members
