Qualifications

• Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Typically 10+ years experience designing and developing industrial equipment or machinery; exceptional candidates with fewer years may be considered.
• Proven experience with modern 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360) and creating manufacturing drawings and BOMs.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop industrial machinery and mechanical systems from concept through production.
• Produce detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly documentation and Bills of Materials.
• Design for manufacturability, reliability, serviceability and cost-effectiveness.
• Develop, assemble and test prototype equipment from CAD designs.
• Carry out mechanical fitting, assembly and testing in a workshop environment.
• Identify and resolve design and engineering issues during testing and commissioning.
• Collaborate with customers, suppliers, subcontract manufacturers and production teams to improve equipment.
• Support production during introduction of new products and engineering changes.

Job Overview

• Designing industrial machinery, mechanical systems and fabricated assemblies using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360 or equivalent
• Developing new products and equipment from initial concept through to production
• Producing detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly documentation and Bills of Materials
• Designing equipment with manufacturability, reliability, serviceability and cost-effectiveness in mind
• Developing, assembling and testing prototype equipment from your own CAD designs
• Carrying out practical mechanical fitting, machinery assembly and modifications within a workshop environment
• Diagnosing design and mechanical issues during testing and implementing effective engineering solutions
• Working closely with customers, suppliers, subcontract manufacturers and production teams to develop and improve equipment
• Supporting production during the introduction of new products and engineering changes
• Taking ownership of engineering projects through design, manufacture and commissioning support
• Identifying opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement across the product range

Job Requirements

• Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Typically 10 years or more experience designing and developing industrial equipment, machinery or special-purpose machinery, although exceptional candidates with fewer years of experience will be considered
• Strong experience using modern 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360 or equivalent
• Extensive experience producing manufacturing drawings, Bills of Materials and engineering documentation
• Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA)
• Experience with stainless steel fabrication, welded assemblies, sheet metal design and machined components
• Practical workshop experience involving mechanical assembly, fitting, testing and modification of equipment
• Excellent mechanical problem-solving and engineering troubleshooting ability
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes and the practical requirements of taking designs through to finished machinery
• Strong communication skills with the confidence to work with customers, suppliers and production teams
• Full UK driving licence
