Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Lead Data Scientist / Deep Learning Practitioner in Nottingham to lead the development of proprietary deep learning models for underwriting. You will work with diverse data to boost predictive power and generate actionable customer insights.

You’ll mentor others, collaborate with stakeholders, and drive prototypes through production, using PyTorch/TensorFlow and SQL/Python in a hybrid Nottingham setup.

Qualifications

• Strong experience developing and deploying deep learning models for sequential data (time series or language models).
• Proven track record leading model development, setting technical direction, project management and mentoring.
• Experience producing reliable code in SQL/Python with code reviews and best practices.
• Hands-on with PyTorch, TensorFlow or Hugging Face Transformers; training on GPUs or clusters.
• Experience with structured and unstructured data and tokenisation techniques.
• Strong understanding of probability, statistics and large-scale data manipulation.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of next generation deep learning approaches to advance underwriting models.
• Unlock value in non-traditional datasets by building neural networks (e.g. LSTMs, RNNs, Transformers).
• Transform raw, multi-modal inputs into powerful predictive features.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to prioritise initiatives.
• Bridge R&D and production deployment from prototypes to in-market results.
• Combine business acumen, coding and statistics to extract actionable solutions from data.
