We’re looking for an individual with experience in UK and/or global rates markets to join the high-performing Rates and Investments team. The candidate should be a self-learner and self-starter, capable of working independently and collaboratively. Responsibilities include managing a portfolio of government and SSA bonds, and associated derivatives across GBP, USD, EUR, CAD, and JPY to optimize our Liquid Asset Buffer.

This role offers a high-profile opportunity to be part of a successful, cohesive team making impactful investment decisions. It involves supporting various sub-desks within Rates & Investments, providing diverse market exposure.

At Nationwide, we promote hybrid working, combining office presence with home working to foster collaboration and flexibility. The role requires spending at least two days per week, or 40% of your time if part-time, at our London office. What you’ll be doing

• Reacting to live market events and collaborating on projects with credit, liquidity, and operations teams to balance efficiency and prudence.
• Assessing and executing market opportunities, and analyzing news and data to inform portfolio decisions, sharing insights with stakeholders.
• Representing the Society externally to counterparties, regulators, industry groups, and issuers, and internally as a desk expert, requiring strong relationship and communication skills.
• Handling a broad range of instruments and markets within a controlled framework, optimizing workflows, and solving complex issues.
• Leveraging broader rates market expertise within Primary Liquidity Investments and contributing to the wider Treasury functions.
• Viewing this role as a platform for growth and value addition, with support provided to develop your abilities.

About you

• Experience in financial markets, especially government and/or SSA bonds focusing on asset swaps.
• Ability to produce verbal and written market commentary.
• A self-starter capable of understanding complex macros for trading opportunities.
• Proven skills in workflow optimization and problem-solving.
• Strong relationship management and communication skills.
• Coding knowledge is beneficial; advanced Excel skills are essential.
• Ability to remain composed in a fast-paced, risk-controlled environment.
• Understanding of banking balance sheets, liquidity risk, and both quantitative and qualitative analysis.
• Proficiency with Bloomberg.
