Job summary

Arm Limited is seeking a Database Platform Engineer to optimise Arm's database platform for peak performance across backend data structures and frontend access for end-users. The role involves maintaining diverse databases across technologies and environments in a multi-supplier setup.

You will work with Infrastructure Engineering and Applications teams to deliver high-performance database platforms for Arm's engineers, and may support other performance optimisation activities as needed.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in SQL and databases.
• Solid understanding of server hardware, storage, and networking.
• Ability to understand multifaceted engineering concepts.
• Experience with task prioritisation and project timelines.
• Understanding of optimization techniques across the stack and monitoring tools like Dynatrace.
• Strong Linux administration skills.
• Focus on running databases for specific software applications.

Responsibilities

• Lead collaboration with database partners to install, configure, and update database management systems (e.g. MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL).
• Implement access controls, manage permissions, and deploy security measures to protect sensitive data.
• Oversee and optimize a diverse environment including servers, storage solutions, and high-speed networking with relevant teams.
• Understand architectural designs and manage virtual and physical server environments to maximise resource efficiency.
• Automate manual or regular processes and optimize software license costs.
• Coordinate with multiple vendors and Arm Engineering groups to deliver database performance optimisation, break-fix and lifecycle management.
• Nurture an 'Arm on Arm' approach to run Arm-based infrastructure.
• Predict future data storage needs and plan upgrades.
• Partner with engineering infrastructure providers to align product roadmaps with database requirements.
• Provide technical support to developers for operations optimization and issue resolution.
• Collaborate with other infrastructure teams to ensure integration of Database systems with other systems.
• Act as subject matter expert on internal work concepts, translating engineering requirements into robust infrastructure solutions.
