They will lead a team of data scientists, who will assist them in the creation of data science solutions.AccountabilitiesYour responsibilities will include:Lead the delivery of predictive modelling projects from problem definition through development, validation, production integration and ongoing monitoring.Mastering Hastings’ systems, processes, and technology to maximise the effectiveness of your team.Identify, assess and prepare new data features, evaluating their predictive value, stability, interpretability and potential impact on customer pricing outcomes.Build and promote reusable, maintainable and reproducible modelling tools, pipelines and development practices.Lead a small team of data scientists, supporting their technical development and helping them deliver high-quality work.Work with senior leaders to help shape the team’s data science strategy and identify opportunities to improve modelling capability, processes and ways of working.Contribute to and help establish best-practice standards for modelling, software development, testing, documentation and deployment.Skills, Knowledge & ExperienceEssentialDeep understanding of predictive modelling and machine learning techniques, including linear and gradient boosted models.Demonstrable experience delivering data science solutions that have influenced business decisions and generated measurable commercial value.Strong SQL skills, including experience extracting, transforming and preparing data for predictive modelling.Proficiency and experience using Python and ML libraries to build and integrate data science products.Experience using Git for version control and collaborative software development.Ability to lead technical discussions, influence senior stakeholders and explain complex analytical concepts clearly.Experience working collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams.Experience reviewing the technical work of other data scientists.DesirableExperience using Azure Machine Learning Studio or similar cloud-based ML platforms.Experience using Snowflake or similar cloud-based data platforms.Experience leading, supporting, and mentoring junior colleagues.Experience applying data science or predictive modelling within general insurance.Personal AttributesNatural problem solver who loves building quality solutions to complex real-world challenges.Dynamic, flexible, and delivery focussed.Takes ownership and accountability.Recruitment Process:Recruitment screening call1st Round Intro with the hiring leaderCase Study round – a mix of Technical and CompetencyAs a Disability Confident employer, we’re committed to ensuring our recruitment processes are fully inclusive – what this means to you is if you’re applying for a job with us, you’ll have fair access to support and adjustments throughout your recruitment journey.
